The City of Salo is situated in Southwest Finland coastal area and has a population of approximately 50,000. The municipal food services prepare meals for daycare centers, schools, and municipal staff. There are 7 production kitchens and 43 service kitchens, producing around 9,000 meals daily.

The JAMIX Kitchen Intelligence System has been in use in the City of Salo for over a decade and is widely utilized for managing recipes, menus, and meal orders. In addition, purchase orders are made electronically directly to suppliers through the system, and internal billing is also handled via JAMIX.

Standardized Recipes And Menus With Seamless Ordering

The JAMIX system is used very comprehensively in the City of Salo. Food Service Supervisor Mari Portaala serves as the admin user of the system and ensures that recipes, menus, and contracted products are always up to date.

“Everyone uses the same recipes, and we have the same menu across all locations,” Mari explains. Nutritional calculations and comparisons, which are essential in daycare and school meals, are also easily handled with Jamix.

“Employees in service kitchens enter meal orders into the system, and production kitchens can then effortlessly determine production volumes directly based on those orders. Kitchens also order the food items they need electronically through the JAMIX system. I handle the billing for meal orders, which is very quick and easy to do using the software,” Mari says.

Menus for daycare centers and schools are published online directly from the JAMIX system using the JAMIX Menu service. “Customers have learned to find the menu there and can view ingredients and nutritional values through it,” Mari notes, continuing: “We also collect customer feedback through the JAMIX Menu service directly into the system. That’s the channel where feedback goes straight into processing.”

The System Saves Time In Purchasing And Ensures Accurate Procurement

Mari especially highlights the benefits of the JAMIX system in purchasing:
“In an operation of this size, it would be impossible to calculate required quantities from recipes or place orders by phone. When the program creates a purchase order template directly from required quantities and includes all needed ingredients, nothing gets forgotten. It really makes things much easier. I can’t even imagine having to calculate how much food is needed from recipes manually – it would take far more working time.

Thanks to the system, purchases are also guided correctly, since we have defined the contract products that can be ordered. Using systems like this is simply part of modern food service operations. I can’t imagine running operations without software, at least not in kitchens operating on this scale.”

Mari was originally responsible for implementing the JAMIX system in the City of Salo’s food service operations. For new Jamix customers, she advises reserving enough time for implementation and thinking early on about what is expected from the system so that it supports daily operations effectively.

“It’s easy to reach out by email, and you always get a response. Sometimes we’ve reviewed the system together with support via remote connection, which is also very easy. We’ve always received help, and any issues have always been resolved one way or another.”
